Welcome to OBI Presshouse…
Tasmania is the last refuge for many unique Australian mammals. Living on Bruny Island, off the east coast of Tasmania, one is very aware of the small animals and birds, many of whom are already on the National Endangered Species list, that live their lives in the native habitat.
Talking to Lois Bury, the artist, one morning in the local cafe, I suggested I write a childrens story about the tiny bush bird, the 40 spotted Pardalote. Although it is registered as endangered there is a colony of these little birds in the trees around Dennes Point, where I live. Lois very kindly agreed to illustrate the story and that is how OBI Presshouse started.
One of the meanings of Obi in Japanese is a paper wrapping for a book. It also stands for On Bruny Island, so I felt there was enough of a literary connection to make it a good company name and that it could be tied into future stories about animals who lived on Bruny Island.
We are pleased to welcome you to OBI Presshouse - here at OBI, we are excited to educate the next generation on the issues facing our environment and how we can preserve and protect our earth through the literary arts.
